Practical, one-on-one skill building across Sydney, at your pace, around your goals.

Learning to cook, catch the bus, manage money, or run your own home, these are the skills that change what a week looks like. For a lot of participants they feel out of reach, not because they are, but because nobody has taught them the right way.
We start with what you want to do, then build the skills to get there. No generic programs.
Skills are learned where you'll use them: your kitchen, your local shops, your bus route.
We track small wins so you and your family can see the change, plan review after plan review.
You won't be passed around. One dedicated support worker who knows your routine and builds on last week.
That's where our skills development team comes in. We sit down with you, work out which skills matter most to your goals, and practise them together in real settings until they stick. No pressure, no jargon, no generic programs.

Our team builds sessions around the skills that matter most, including:
If it's a skill that builds your independence, we can build a session around it.
See how it worksSkills development is funded under Capacity Building (Improved Daily Living) in your NDIS plan. If it's there, it's because the NDIS believes building these skills matters for your goals.
It's especially helpful if you're working toward more independence at home, moving out, or preparing for work or study.
Get In Touch
Is This You?
Skills development makes the biggest difference when:

You're getting ready to live more independently and want the skills to back it up.

Your skills have plateaued with previous providers, or everyday tasks still rely on family more than you'd like.

A big change is coming, moving out, a new school, a first job, and you want to be ready for it.
If any of these sound familiar, skills development can get things moving. Give us a call and we'll talk it through.
Getting Prepared
You don't need anything to get started. But if you have these handy, your first skills chat will be even more useful:
A copy of your NDIS plan
Your NDIS number
A skill you'd love to master first
Your goals, in your own words
Any recent reports from therapists or doctors
Questions you want answered, no question is too small
Don't stress if you're missing something. We can start with just your plan, or even help you track down a copy if you've lost it.
Same-day setup. No pressure. No jargon. Just practical sessions that build real independence.
We reply within one business day.

We work out which skills matter most to your goals and build a simple plan, at your home, our Ashfield hub, or over the phone.
Regular sessions in real settings, your kitchen, your suburb, your route, building one skill at a time.
We track your wins, adjust the pace, and get your progress ready to show at your next plan review.
See below the most commonly asked questions we get at Able to Thrive.
We do it with you, not for you. A support worker might do the task; a skills session teaches you the task, step by step, until you don't need us for it. The goal is you needing us less over time.
Yes. Sessions can happen at home, out in the community, or at our Ashfield hub, whichever setting fits the skill you're building.
That's normal, and we plan for it. We keep goals small, celebrate real wins, and your worker adjusts the pace so sessions stay something you look forward to.
Yes. Skills development pairs naturally with in-home support and community access, and many participants combine them as their confidence grows.
We require 48 hours notice for cancellations. We're lenient where there's a genuine reason, illness, hospital admission, family emergency. We just ask that you let us know as early as you can. We'll always explain the policy clearly in your Service Agreement before services begin.
Yes, most of our supports can be funded under Core Supports or Capacity Building, depending on the goal of the session. If the focus is day-to-day support it usually sits under Core; if the focus is skill-building it sits under Capacity Building. Contact our team and we'll help work out which funding category fits your situation.
Tell us which skills you want to build and we'll match you with a dedicated support worker.
